BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Coaching & Instruction in Physical Restraint - Course Overview and Feedback.

Last month we launched our new flagship course - the BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Coaching and Instruction in Physical Restraint - that was attended by 21 of our current NFPS Accredited Instructors.

The course is designed to take individuals to a higher level of coaching, moving them into a new and exciting way of thinking and learning, consistent with the values and beliefs of many of the worlds top coaches. As such the course can be challenging as it encourages the individuals to think beyond their normal level of ability and break into new and exciting fields of possibility.

The course covered many subjects such as: The difference between instruction and coaching, the 4 C's of Coaching, how individuals learn, how the brain processes, stores and recalls information, the brain's universal filtering systems, the structure of language, how to use more effective communication, how to ask precision questions, goal setting and how to undertake a training needs analysis.

We [John and I] thoroughly enjoyed the week we had with our colleagues and what impressed us most of all was seeing people change the way they think. It is also testament to many who attended who found some of the aspects of it personally challenging when having to reflect on their own performance. However, they did it and did it well and as a result I am sure that many have grown into better instructors and coaches for it.

What was great to hear was how many of you who attended went out and applied the knowledge and skills almost immediately. One of you told me how you had used one aspect of the week in supervision with a member of staff to great effect, another called me to tell me how it had changed the way they relate to and talk to their children, and another on how it had motivated them to communicate with their staff in different ways which has generated results that they didn't expect.

The thing about coaching is that it is not all about physical skill instruction. It is about the way we think and live. Therefore, coaching is a life skill.

I would also like to thank those of you who gave the following feedback, extracts of which can be seen below:

"I thought I would take this opportunity to thank you for the brilliant course on the week of the 20th - 24th November. As always I not only thoroughly enjoyed myself but have learnt and used many of the skills you have brought to my attention. I find it intriguing and amazing that I have been using many personal teaching and coaching skills, that you advocate, in an unconscious state for many years. Thank you for bringing my skills and abilities up to date and into the world of unconscious competence. Obviously this is a cyclical thing and I will travel through it many times before I fully transcend into a better being, at least I will do it with the knowledge gained from your sessions. I am now revamping all of my training sessions with updated models with great success and acceptance from those I train. Thanks to you."

"I would just like to say thank you, to you and John for a fantastic week.
I really enjoyed the course, it is mind-blowing stuff, has really made me think about my own development and training. It exceeded all of my expectations. Great stuff, and once again thank you."

"I just wanted to drop you a line to say Thank You for the recent Btec Coaching Course. I found the course very inspiring and thought provoking. There were plenty of 'light-bulb moments' throughout the entire 5 days! It was challenging in some ways and yet very powerful, in the sense that things were being absorbed at a different level, which took a degree of trust, even though confusion tried to distract me sometimes! The people on the course were great too; you certainly attract a varied and nice crowd."

"The whole course was very interesting, motivating and stimulating. A well constructed course with great depth. Cheers."

"Thanks for making me think."

"As usual I experienced the course as superb. The instructors were great. Easy going without losing grip of any of the instruction. The instruction communicated in a way I easily relate to."

"Enjoyed the course and thought that the material as usual fantastic. Thanks for the diligent efforts that you and John go to that take us beyond our limitations."

"Yet again, Mark and John never fail to amaze. Their knowledge and professionalism is of the highest order. They are able to take very complex and over-awing subjects and break them down and put them across in a way that anyone will walk away with a greater knowledge than before."
