Qualify to Train or Train to Qualify?
We constantly receive enquiries from many individuals who ask us whether or not they need a teaching qualification as a pre-requisite to attending our Restraint and Breakaway Instructors Qualifying Course. This is apparently something that is required by other organisations purporting to offer similar training.
In short, the answer is no. You do not need a qualification as a pre-requisite to attend our Restraint and Breakaway Instructors Qualifying Course - furthermore, we will provide you with a qualification once you have attended it!
In addition, we offer you the chance to gain additional qualifications as part of your CPD (Continual Professional Development) that lead towards gaining the new PTLLS (Preparing To Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) Level 4 Award, the new award which has replaced the old C&G7407.
To achieve this all you need to do is choose to attend the following 2 courses:
1. Our NFPS Restraint & Breakaway Instructors Qualifying Course (including the BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Physical Restraint Practice), and then,
2. The BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Coaching & Instruction in Physical Restraint.
This will give you the following qualifications:
1. A BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Physical Restraint Practice;
2. NFPS Instructor Accreditation;
3. A BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Coaching & Instruction in Physical Restraint;
4. The new PTLLS Level 4 Award.
Retention of Learning
In a number of surveys into learning it has been proved that if we are just told something our retention of information after only 3 months is just 10%!!
If we are told and shown it our retention of information after only 3 months is still just only 32%!!
However, if we are told, shown and experience something our retention of information after 3 months is 65%!!
Learning in isolation
One of the main bits of feedback that we got from people we meet who had to acquire the old 7302, 7303 and 7407, was that what they learnt had no relevance to them in relation to the courses they had to deliver. In short, they did the old 7302, 7303 and 7407 as 'stand-alone' courses just to get the qualification. In other words, they had to get the old qualifications to teach, so it became a 'tick in the box' exercise for many. This meant that for many the learning experience that the old qualifications were meant to install was not retained and therefore soon forgotten, because the old qualifications were not taught in a specific context that made it easily understandable or relevant to the learner. This meant that people could not (or did not ) apply the learning acquired in the training qualification in the professional courses that they were expected to deliver once qualified.
Learning in Context - Why we are different.
By developing the new PTLLS Award around the context of teaching a Physical Skill (Restraint & Breakaway) it becomes a much more valuable learning experience as people can experience how it works when applied in a specific context. This makes learning much more enjoyable - and measurable - and retainable.
So here's the deal:
1. Attend our Restraint & Breakaway Instructors Qualifying Course and get the following:
§ A BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Physical Restraint Package, and
§ A NFPS Ltd Instructors Certificate.
2. Attend our BTEC Level 3 Award in Coaching and Instruction in Physical Restraint and get the following:
§ A BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Coaching & Instruction in Physical Restraint, and
§ The NEW PTLLS Level 4 Award.
