On the 1st December 2007, we will be holding a Dinner for our Instructors and Coaches and their partners, at the Royal Marines Museum, in Eastney, Hampshire. The meal will be held in the Silver Gallery, which is at the top of the grand staircase. The Silver Gallery is a beautiful setting with walls covered in rich, red baize and adorned with fine portraits where you will be entertained in flickering candlelight, reflected in the gleaming displays of silver and polished wood furnishings. You can view the venue online by going to: http://www.royalmarinesmuseum.co.uk/corporate_silver.htm
The dinner is open to anyone who has trained or is professionally associated with us and will be an excellent event for us all to have an exquisite meal and interesting and amusing conversation, in unique historical surroundings.
The current museum is a grand imposing building, which dates back to the original Barracks which were constructed to house the Royal Marine Artillery in 1862. In the move to Eastney, the musketry and gunnery training fields were retained while the large parade ground and eventually a gymnasium, theatre and drill shed, made the division self contained. It was not until 1867 that the whole division was in the Barracks and not until 1868 that the Officer's quarters were completed, when in 1923 the Royal Marine Light Infantry and Royal Marine Artillery amalgamated and Eastney became home to the Portsmouth Division of the Royal Marines.
The Barracks are now apartments, with the Officer's quarters being the Royal Marines Museum.
On the recent Coaching Course held in Portsmouth, we managed to arrange a private guided tour of the Museum and we were fortunate enough to have been hosted by the Front of House Manager, himself an ex-Royal Marine Special Boat Service Commando and the first member of special forces to land in the Falklands during the Falklands War, whose contribution and intelligence gathering activities contributed to the British retaking the Islands. It was a great evening and as a result the idea of having a meal there was born.
The evening is limited to between 20-30 people so if you and your partner wish to attend please make sure that you reserve your place as soon as possible. The cost of the evening is only £65.00 per person, which is exceptional value when you consider the historic ambiance of the environment we will be dining in.
If you and your partner wish to attend please let me know as soon as possible, as we have already received confirmation from many of those who attended the last Coaching Course and who came on the Museum visit, so places are filling quickly.
To secure your name on the guest list simply forward a cheque made payable to 'M. Dawes' (not NFPS Ltd) to cover the number of places you require.
We are sure that the dinner is going to be an excellent social gathering and the start of many more to follow. If you wish to be one of the first to attend the first NFPS Instructor and Coaches Dinner, get in touch as soon as possible. |
