There is about to be an imminent launch of a new Specialised Directorate of a National Governing Body (NGB) with specific responsibility for Occupational Physical Restraint Instruction and Practice.
The Directorate will be responsible for creating Coaching, Instructional and Accreditation standards for Physical Restraint and Breakaway / Self-Defence Instruction, based on a formal Quality Management and Accreditation System.
Bringing together Coaching and National Vocational Educational Awards.
The Directorate will be able to award National Governing Body Coaching and Instructional Certificates as well as Edexcel / BTEC Awarding Body Certificates in Physical Restraint and Breakaway and Self-Defence Instruction and Practice. In addition we are currently working on ensuring that these awards are consistent and compatible with the standards developed by Sport Coach UK’s United Kingdom Coaching Certificates.
What is the prime aim of the new National Governing Body Specialist Directorate?
Our prime aim is as follows:
1. To raise the standard of Occupational Physical Skills Instruction within the well-established coaching and instructional models developed for sport coach training and accreditation, and
2. To provide those who come to us for training with tangible and credible qualifications, issued and recognised by officially recognised Educational Awarding Bodies and Nationally Recognised Sporting Governing Bodies.
3. To provide a range of high quality National Governing Body and BTEC / Edexcel Approved courses through a network of qualified Occupational Physical Skills Instructors and Coaches and Approved Licensed Centres.
4. To enable individuals and organisations to have their programmes accredited through a formalised quality management and assessment criteria to gain NGB and / or BTEC Approved status.
This is an exciting and groundbreaking development as it is the first time that a National Sporting Governing Body has ever been able to offer Official National Governing Body Coaching Awards and Certification for Occupational Physical Skills.
“How does this new Specialised Directorate compare to other organisations who promote themselves as ‘National Bodies’ or ‘Professional Associations’ who ‘qualify’ or ‘accredit’ individuals as ‘Tutors’ or ‘Trainers’ in Physical Restraint / Intervention?”
The main difference is that this new body is a Specialist Directorate of an officially recognised National Governing Body, mandated by Sport England and recognised by Sport Coach UK (Formerly National Coaching Foundation). This means that all of the Founder Members will hold the status of National or International Coach Tutor and / or National or International Ratification Officer and a National Governing Body Coaching Certificate at Level 5.
“What does this mean to me?”
What this means to you as an Instructor accredited by us is that you will have undergone and passed an Officially Recognised Formal Instructional and / or Coaching Training Course and Assessment in order to hold a National Governing Body Coaching / Instructional Certificate issued by a Recognised and Approved National Qualified Source.
In addition, as the Directorate will also have the facility to offer programme / system accreditation to any individual and organisation that would like to have National Governing Body Accreditation Status for the system / programme of restraint used, adding further credibility and additional proof of due diligence and continual professional development, which can only lead to increased protection and reduced liability. This means that any programme accredited by the new Directorate, will automatically receive National Governing Body status, meaning that as an Instructor or Coach accredited by the NGB you will be able to issue National Governing Body Certificates for any NGB courses run by you.
