To meet the required criteria for successful completion of this course delegates must be able to demonstrate:
- A clear understanding of the constraints laid down by law, health and safety and human rights for the use of physical force for the purpose of defence and intervention/restraint
- A clear understanding of the risks associated with Physical Restraint including positional asphyxiation, alcohol, drugs and edged weapons, and, how to minimise those risks through good practice and safe working procedures
- The ability to promote good coaching practice to reduce instructional and operational injury to staff by understanding and applying the principles laid down in the Manual Handling Regulations 1992.
In addition, those individuals seeking Instructor accreditation or re-affirmation must be able to demonstrate a competent level of physical coaching expertise in all aspects of the training programme and will be continually assessed on the following subject categories:
- Retention of Information; (Passing of written test papers on law and positional asphyxiation)
- Coaching Ability - Supervision
- Coaching Ability - Safety
- Coaching Ability - Manual Handling - Good Practice
- Coaching Ability - Group Control
- Coaching Ability - Safe Management of Dynamic Scenario Training
Award of NFPS re-accreditation identifies that the individual has maintained a competent level of instructional ability in the above subject areas.
