At the end of this course staff will be able to identify and understand:
- The basic working principles of English Law in relation to the use of physical force, including compliance with the Human Rights Act 1998 and Legislation and guidance with regard to the use of force with regard to Children and young people (including National care Home Minimum Standards).
- To instruct delegates in the various appropriate technical physical skills, including good manual handling and correct posture) required for the competent application of physical intervention and restraint including appropriate methods of restraining, holding still, escorting and containing young people, including dealing with kicking and seated holding / restraint.
- To instruct delegates in the risks associated with the use of physical force for the purpose of physical intervention and restraint, paying special attention to the risk of Postural Asphyxiation.
- To allow delegates to practice physical restraint in various situational scenarios to expose delegates to increasing levels of pressure to simulate the types of environmental and personal pressures that they may be exposed to and expected to operate in.
- Reporting of use of force incidents.
