As you are aware there are changes coming into effect from the 1st April with regard to the SIA License Linked Qualifications and I have just had the following email from Pearsons; our Awarding organisation, so I thought that I’d share it with you in case you hadn’t heard anything.
The email I received stated the following:
“Dear Colleague
The SIA licence linked qualifications listed below have a last registration date of 31st March 2021:
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors within the Private Security Industry
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Working as a CCTV Operator within the Private Security Industry
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Working as a Vehicle Immobiliser within the Private Security Industry
Learners registered on or before 31st March 2021 have until 30th June 2021 to achieve all units and claim certification. Learners will be able to sit the tests for these qualifications until 14th June 2021. Learners who do not complete and claim the qualification by 30th June 2021 will have to register onto the new qualifications if they wish to complete a licence-linked qualification in order to apply for licence to practice.
The new licence linked qualifications listed below will be available for learner registration from 1st April 2021:
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for CCTV Operators (Public Space Surveillance) in the Private Security Industry
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry
Please note that we will not be offering a Vehicle Immobiliser qualification from 1st April 2021.
From October 2021 anyone wishing to renew their Door Supervisor or Security Officer licence will be required to achieve the following qualifications before they can submit their licence renewal application to the SIA:
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Top Up)
Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Top Up)
These qualifications will be available for learner registration from 1st April 2021. Tests will be available from 1st June 2021.
Specifications will be available on our website shortly. In the mean-time please find attached the following documents for your information:
- 2021 Units
- Mapping Documents: these map the new units to the current 2015 units. The Top Up mapping document indicates where the content is covered in the new 2021 units.
- Get Trained: This details all the requirements that awarding organisations and training providers must adhere to in relation to the new qualifications.
